Dr. Nasario García Appears at UNM Bookstore for Book Discussion & Signing
It takes all kinds to populate Northern New Mexico, and No More Bingo Comadre! has every one: from gypsies and gamblers to ranchers and criminals. The title character, Adelfa, flirts with the glamour of casinos and finds herself addicted to gambling. Sam "Spam" Austin, an inmate serving a long sentence for murder, is paroled, attends medical school, and becomes a doctor. The affable grandfather in "Yo Quiero Hacer un Lie 'Way," a hard-working and honorable rancher, stuns the proprietor of a mortuary with his request to put a coffin on layaway. Dr. Nasario García will be at the UNM Main Campus Bookstore on Tuesday, November 13th at 12PM to sign copies of No More Bingo Comadre! (University of New Mexico Press, 2018). This event is open to the public.

Editors Ana R. Alonso-Minutti, Eduardo Herrera, and Alejandro L. Madrid Appear at UNM Bookstore for Book Discussion & Signing
“Experimentalisms in Practice” explores the multiple sites in which experimentalism emerges and becomes meaningful beyond Eurocentric interpretative frameworks. Challenging the notion of experimentalism as defined in conventional narratives, contributors take a broad approach to a wide variety of Latin and Latin American music traditions conceived or perceived as experimental. The conversation takes a starting point in the 1960s, a decade that marks a crucial political and epistemological moment for Latin America; militant and committed aesthetic practices resonated with this moment, resulting in a multiplicity of artistic and musical experimental expressions. Associate Professor Ana R. Alonso-Minutti, Assistant Professor Eduardo Herrera, and author Alejandro L. Madrid will be at the UNM Bookstore on Friday, November 16th at 12PM to sign and discuss copies of Experimentalisms in Practice: Music Perspectives from Latin America (Oxford University Press, 2018). This event is open to the public.
