The University of New Mexico Bookstore
The University of New Mexico was founded in 1889 along with construction of its first building, Hodgen Hall,
two years later. The bookstore started with humble beginnings in an army barracks and then its location migrated
from place to place around the UNM campus.
During the late 1950’s, it was known as the “Associated Student’s Bookstore,” and was located in the basement
of the Student Union Building. It moved again in the early 1970’s to what is now the Biology building on UNM
Main Campus.
In July of 1996, the UNM Bookstore officially began operating from its current location, adjacent to the
recently constructed George Pearl Hall Architecture Building. The store has two other locations, Medical/Legal
Bookstore on North Campus and UNM West, located in Rio Rancho.
UNM Bookstores partnered with UNM Athletics, in the fall of 2009 to run the retail operations at University Stadium
and the Pit along with other Athletics concessions opportunities and the on-line store The Lobo Den. This partnership
has strengthened UNM Bookstores commitment to the University of New Mexico.
